Matthew Dellavedova may have signed a $US38.5 million contract to play for the Milwaukee Bucks, but it cost him a trip to the White House.
The Cleveland Cavaliers will visit US President Barack Obama on Thursday, continuing the annual tradition for reigning NBA championship-winning teams.
Dellavedova, a back-up point guard on the triumphant Cavaliers' last season, was asked to join his old teammates for the event in Washington DC but the Australian will be suiting up for the Bucks in a game against the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday night.
Cavaliers' leader LeBron James has been a regular to the White House, with this visit his third for an NBA championship winning ceremony.
"I've had a couple run-ins in a good way with President Obama," James told Cleveland.com.
"It's always good to see a familiar face."
Australian NBA players visiting Obama has become an annual event, with Patty Mills and Aron Baynes scoring an invite after the San Antonio Spurs' 2014 championship while Andrew Bogut went for the Golden State Warriors' 2015 title win.
