Demand for CSR's products to remain strong

The strong residential construction market is expected to support demand for CSR's building materials products.

Building products maker CSR expects demand for its products to remain strong this year, underpinned by residential construction markets.

Earnings in building products are expected to improve in the year ending March 31, 2017, managing director Rob Sindel told shareholders at his company's annual meeting.

East coast building approvals continue to grow, up nine per cent on an annualised basis, he said.

Multi-residential approvals have started to soften but they are up 15 per cent on an annualised basis.

CSR's glass division Viridian is also expected to deliver earnings growth as it focuses on revenue growth from high performance glass, and increased penetration in the commercial market, Mr Sindel said.

In property, CSR reaffirmed its guidance of $15 to $20 million in earnings annually, subject to the timing of transactions.

The ongoing development of several property projects will underpin earnings over the next five to 10 years, he told shareholders.

CSR shares dropped four cents to $3.64 in a significantly weaker market.
