Demand for teachers to soar: report

More teachers will be needed in the next decade as a babies born after 2008 go into secondary school, a new report says.

A new report has found a growing population is increasing demand for teachers, classrooms and even new schools.

The Australian Council for Educational Research report says the demand for teachers and classrooms will rise every year until at least 2025 as the babies born after 2008 come into secondary schools.

Victoria would experience the most demand for primary classes, tipped at 448 additionally each year.

NSW will need about 385 new classes each year until 2020, Queensland will need 443 and Western Australia 351.
