Melbourne have re-signed key defender Tom McDonald and midfielder Dom Barry for the next two AFL seasons.

The Demons announced contract extensions for both McDonald and Barry on Thursday, locking the pair away until the end of the 2016 season.

"There was a lot of negativity around the club and we'd struggled ... (but) this year, I can really see the path we're going on," McDonald said on the club website.

McDonald has become a central part of the Demons' improved defence.

Melbourne free agent James Frawley's future has been the subject of much interest and speculation this season, with the key defender still weighing up where his future lies.

Barry, who recently debuted against the Western Bulldogs, said extending his stay was an easy decision to make.

"We're heading in the right direction; I think we're going up. We've been at the bottom for too long now," Barry said.
