Melbourne coach Paul Roos says his players aren't carrying any mental scars after their heart-breaking, last-gasp loss to St Kilda.

The struggling Demons had a win snatched from them with 19 seconds remaining last week after they failed to get numbers behind the ball when Jeremy Howe put them in front with 41 seconds left in the game.

Melbourne take on Geelong at Simonds Stadium on Sunday and Roos is confident his players will tackle the tough task in the right frame of mind having moved on from the costly last-minute lapse.

"We've addressed it, I guess it's part of the learning for the group and for the coaches and how we need to address them and how they respond to things," Roos said on Friday.

"Everyone learns and listens differently and there were also some roles that the players understood that weren't executed regardless of whether we should have had one back or two back.

"It was a disappointing end to the game, but providing the players and coaches are learning from it we keep moving forward."

The Demons will be trying to avoid their fourth loss in a row when they take on the Cats at a ground where they haven't won since 2005.

Roos' side held an early lead against Port Adelaide in Alice Springs three weeks ago before capitulating, then went on to suffer losses at the hands of Collingwood and the Saints.

Melbourne sit 15th on the ladder with just three wins from 11 games, but Roos is confident his team is still headed in the right direction.

"We feel we've had two really good weeks but haven't had a result," he said.

"The key to it is keeping the players really positive in those situations and reminding the fans and the players that they are improving and they are getting better.

"Otherwise you tend to go the other way and feel sorry for yourself and the bottom can fall out of the boat."

The club's lengthy injury list swelled with the loss of Cameron Pedersen for the rest of the season after he broke his wrist against St Kilda, but Chris Dawes returns to partner Jesse Hogan in attack after throwing off a nagging calf complaint.

"Certainly health-wise we're a lot more confident in his body at the moment," Roos said.

The Cats will be celebrating Corey Enright's 300-game milestone and while Roos expressed his admiration for the premiership defender he doubted it would impact on the result.
