Demons look to back up winning start

Melbourne are looking to maintain their momentum after starting their AFL season with an impressive win over Gold Coast.

Melbourne have the opportunity to register their first 2-0 start to an AFL season since 2005 when they take on Greater Western Sydney on Saturday.

The Demons are already riding high on the back of their first round-one win in 10 attempts, after upsetting Gold Coast last week, and onballer Dom Tyson said his side must bring the same intensity against the Giants.

"It's a good position to be in, but it doesn't mean much if we can't back it up," Tyson said on Thursday.

"It (2-0) is an exciting prospect, but the Giants are a really good side."

Tyson, 22, played 13 games for GWS after they selected him third overall at the 2011 draft.

He sees parallels between his old side and Melbourne's developing list, which has been augmented with quality veteran players in recent years.

"The additions of blokes like (Shane) Mumford, (Ryan) Griffen and (Joel) Patfull - those sorts of guys who weren't there when I was - I think it's fast-tracked them," he said.

"They're a much more hardened side, but they've had the natural evolution of those young blokes as well. "Those blokes who are my age are playing really good footy now and impacting games."

Bernie Vince (hamstring) and Chris Dawes (suspension) missed the Demons' season-opener, but are available for Saturday's clash in Canberra.
