Melbourne chief executive Peter Jackson suspects in-demand free agent James Frawley has played his last game for the AFL club.
The future of Frawley, named in the 2010 All Australian side, has been up in the air since he put contract talks on hold in January.
Jackson told the Nine Network on Sunday he was essentially resigned to losing the versatile 25-year-old, who has been heavily linked to Geelong.
"He's had an offer on the table for some time, quite a few weeks," Jackson said.
"So if that was acceptable to him, I assume he would have accepted it by now.
"You can draw your own conclusions."
Frawley is yet to inform the club of his plans.
"He says he hasn't made up his mind and that might be genuine," Jackson said.
"I hope it is genuine. I hope he stays, but you would have thought he might have made up his mind by now."
Jackson admitted the lowly club would be disappointed to lose one of their brightest stars.
"Of course we are. That's the problem with free agency," he said.
"My understanding is the offer we've put on the table for him is not unreasonable compared to other offers he might have.
"He wouldn't be going for significantly more money."
Jackson and coach Paul Roos both joined the club last year and loom as arguably the two most important figures in Melbourne's bid to become a successful side again.
Jackson is currently in discussions with the club's board to recommit and expected an announcement soon.
"This was going to be a lot more than 18 months. It was always going to be a long fix and we knew that," he said.
Jackson suggested the club had been sounding out potential successors for Roos, who will hand over the reins after three seasons.
"Informal chats. Basically to find out whether people are interested in senior coaching," he said, adding that the Demons will ramp up the recruitment drive once the season ends.
