Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin's decision to drop veteran Bernie Vince was a clear signal of his intent to shake things up.
The Demons' season is hardly in crisis after successive losses, but Goodwin will be keen to get their campaign back on track when they host St Kilda at the MCG on Sunday.
Vince has been a fixture in Melbourne's best 22 since crossing from Adelaide ahead of the 2014 season.
But the 32-year-old was axed along with Tim Smith, with Harrison Petty, who will debut, and Sam Weideman brought in for the clash with the 16th-placed Saints.
The 225-game veteran responded to his omission in the right manner with a 25-possession effort for Casey in the VFL on Saturday.
"My form probably hasn't been at its best, so I was the first one out, but I'm not giving up yet," Vince told Channel Seven.
"It might take, two, three, four weeks to get back in but I'll be doing everything I can."
After winning six games in a row, the Demons slipped to an 8-5 record with losses to Collingwood and Port Adelaide.
A win against the struggling Saints is a must as they look to strengthen their claims on a top-four spot.
St Kilda, who emerge from their bye looking to build on their last-gasp win over Gold Coast, regained skipper Jarryn Geary and handed Irishman Darragh Joyce his debut.
Jade Gresham's last-minute winner against the Suns handed the Saints their first win since round one of the season.
"It was good for the players to come off the ground and sing the song when you haven't won for a while," coach Alan Richardson said.
"It gives the players real clarity in terms of what we need to do.
"... Whilst Melbourne have come off a couple of losses they've been in really good form. Contested (ball) and clearances are a real strength of theirs so we now the challenge is a strong one."
