Denmark's Australian swim coach to resign

Australian-born Denmark swimming head coach Shannon Rollason will step down from the position due to family reasons.

Denmark's Swimming Federation says Australian-born head coach Shannon Rollason will resign for family reasons.

Federation manager Pia Holmen said Friday she is "both mad and angry," at Rollason's decision to leave after December's Short Course World Championship in Doha, but understands his reasons.

Rollason became head coach of Denmark's National Training Center in March 2013. Danish swimmers Rikke Moller Pedersen, Jeanette Ottesen and Pernille Blume helped Denmark to six gold medals at the European Championships in August.

Holmen says that Rollason's resignation was "certainly not part of the plan up to the Rio 2016" Olympic Games.

Rollason was previously a member of the Australians Olympic coaching staff.
