Dennis loses time as Sky dominate in Alps

After winning stage two of the Tour of the Alps, Australian cycling star Rohan Dennis has lost more than four minutes in stage three.

Cycling's powerful Team Sky shoved reality down the throat of Australian star Rohan Dennis at the Tour of the Alps.

After winning stage two, Dennis lost more than four minutes in the third stage as the powerhouse British team took control.

Sky's Geraint Thomas showcased his form ahead of next month's Giro d'Italia by winning on the uphill finish at Fune and taking the overall lead.

Thomas' teammate Mikel Landa was with him at the finish and took second place on the stage.

Dennis finished 41st, four minutes and 15 seconds behind Thomas.

The Tour of the Alps is a key lead-up race for next month's Giro d'Italia.

Dennis is making his Giro debut this year and it is the start of his long-term project to become an overall contender in the three-week Grand Tours.
