The NFL's Denver Broncos made it official on Monday and named Gary Kubiak as their new head coach, one week after parting ways with John Fox.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the Denver Post reported the two sides were negotiating a four-year contract.
Kubiak was the offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens this past season after spending eight years as Houston Texans head coach.
Although Kubiak had indicated earlier in January he wanted to stay in Baltimore, he has a long history with the Broncos.
He was a backup quarterback to John Elway in Denver and then served as the club's offensive coordinator.
Elway is now in charge of the Broncos as the team's executive vice-president and general manager.
Kubiak was Elway's backup from 1983-91, starting five games in that span, and was the offensive coordinator from 1995-2005.
The Broncos won two Super Bowl titles with Kubiak running the offence.
"While there is no question he is a Bronco, what Gary has learned from his other opportunities around the league - especially in his eight seasons as a head coach - will tremendously benefit our organisation," Elway said.
"Coach Kubiak is all about winning and doing things the right way, which are values that have always been most important to the Broncos and Owner Pat Bowlen."
Meanwhile in Chicago, the Bears formally introduced Fox as their new head coach.
Fox departed Denver "by mutual consent" after the team was beaten in the second round of the playoffs by Indianapolis.
"This is a great, great honour (and) privilege to be the head coach of the Chicago Bears," Fox said. "To be standing here in the same role as George Halas is pretty remarkable and one I take very seriously."
Fox, who amassed a 46-18 record with the Broncos and led Denver to the AFC West division title in all four seasons at the helm, takes over a Bears team that lost eight of its last 10 games under Marc Trestman to finish at 5-11, the club's worst record since 2004.
