A private company in the United States has successfully patented a method of creating babies likely to have certain traits.

23andMe allows parents to chose sperm and eggs most likely to produce certain characteristics such as eye colour or athleticism.

Thea Cowie spoke with Monash University medical ethicist Dr Leslie Cannold about how the science could be used.
