A Queensland detective sergeant has been stood down as he prepares to face a Brisbane court, accused of abusing his position.
Earlier this month, the Crime and Misconduct Commission ordered the man to front court on an abuse of office charge.
The CMC alleges the senior officer abused his position during a criminal investigation. He will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on May 30.
Police on Wednesday said the 39-year-old had been stood down, pending the outcome of that case.
The CMC ordered the officer to face court just a few days after a jury found Rick El Masri not guilty of shooting another man from a high-rise building on Queensland's Gold Coast.
Hylton Miller was shot in the arm and chest in December 2010 in a so-called sniper attack as he walked along The Esplanade in Surfers Paradise.
Mr El Masri's girlfriend Kylie Cunnington has lodged a formal complaint with the CMC over her alleged treatment by police.
She claims she was kidnapped by police, threatened and intimidated in a bid to extract a confession about the shooting.
She's told The Courier-Mail she was threatened in the Southport watch-house and her house was regularly raided in the months after the shooting.
