Police are working to declare a street in the NSW Blue Mountains safe after a box of detonators was found.

A box of detonators found on a Blue Mountains property has prompted the evacuation of several homes.

It is understood people moving house located the old detonators at a property in Wentworth Falls.

Homes in the area around Walmer Crescent were evacuated on Monday afternoon.

A police spokesman confirmed officers were in the process of rendering the area safe.
