Gold Coast coach Stuart Dew is leaving the door open for the Suns to exercise their AFL free agency options with Tom Lynch.

Their co-captain becomes a restricted free agent at the end of this season and speculation is rife he will return to Melbourne.

Collingwood, Richmond and Hawthorn are considered front runners and there are reports the Magpies have met again with Lynch.

He is in Victoria, recovering from knee surgery.

Lynch's status means Gold Coast can match an offer if he wants to leave.

"It's certainly not all on Tom's terms," Dew said.

"We've been in constant dialogue with Tom and his manager.

"When the time is right, we'll certainly move forward one way or another."

Dew added that as far as the Suns are concerned with Lynch, there is plenty of water yet to go under the bridge.

"Certainly there are are options that we have - now is that ... matching? Is it he decides to stay?" he said.

"Is it he decides he wants to explore, which we know he's doing and that's the environment we're in.

"That time will come but right now his next appointment is with a surgeon to get cleared to come back."

Dew was asked about whether the Suns should match any free offer Lynch could try to accept.

"When you're at a footy club, there are lots of opinions," he said.

"When the time's right, we'll have that meeting and get to a position but we haven't concerned ourselves too much given we have parked that to a certain point to concentrate on the rest of the year."
