Dibaba breaks world 2000m indoor record

Genzebe Dibaba has broken another world athletics record, this time smashing the world 2000m indoor record set 18 years ago by almost seven seconds.

Ethiopia's Genzebe Dibaba has broken the women's 2000-metre world record at the indoor Miting International de Catalunya in Spain.

Dibaba's time of 5:23.75 on Tuesday beat the world indoor best set by Gabriela Szabo in 1998 by almost seven seconds.

The 2000 indoors isn't considered an official world record event by the IAAF, but athletics' governing body said in a statement Dibaba's time could be "classed as an outright world record" since it was faster than Sonia O'Sullivan's outdoor mark of 5:25.36.

The 25-year-old Dibaba owns the outdoor world record in 1500m, as well as the indoor records for 1500m, mile, 2000m, 3000, two miles and 5000.
