Dimitrov keeping his feet on ground

Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov is staying focused amid predictions he could break into the highest echelon of world tennis this year.

Roger Federer says he could be the rising star of men's tennis and many suspect it's just a question of when - rather than if - his maiden grand slam will arrive.

But rising Bulgarian star Grigor Dimitrov is keeping a level head after kicking off his 2015 campaign with a tough three-set battle at the Brisbane International.

Number four seed Dimitrov did it the hard way against Frenchman Jeremy Chardy, saving two match points in a tight third set tiebreaker to win 3-6 6-4 7-6 (8-6).

As the Dimitrov hype train gathers steam - with predictions the world No.11 could break through for his first grand slam this season - the man himself is staying focused.

"Well, that sounds very nice," he laughed when told of suggestions 2015 could be his year.

"But, you know, tennis is action.

"I need to prove that, and I think the most important thing is I need to prove that to myself.

"There is no other way. There is no shortcuts.

"Play your best tennis, give your heart out, and anything can happen.

"Only then can I say `yeah, I won a grand slam'. Until then, we can just have our presumptions."
