Two women have been attacked by dingoes on Fraser Island off the Queensland coast.

The women were jogging on the beach at Yidney Rocks, on the island's west coast, when they were bitten "quite heavily" on the legs by two dingoes, the manager of the Yidney Rocks Beachfront Units said.

Maijam Goulding said she was asked to call emergency services for the two Australian tourists in their 20s or 30s.

"They asked me to make a phone call (to triple zero) because I'm the only one with a phone here," she said.
"It's pretty silent here but you don't go running on the beach. That's a big no-no."
Ms Goulding said ambulance officers treated the women, who were staying in accommodation at Yidney Rocks.

She said Fraser Island was renowned for its wild dingoes, but there weren't many in the Yidney Rocks area.

"It's pretty silent here but you don't go running on the beach. That's a big no-no," she said.

"Everybody needs to stay vigilant. That's the way it is, it's been like that for many years.

"You don't take silly risks."

The Queensland Ambulance Service would not provide any information to AAP about the attack.

A spokeswoman for the RACQ CareFlight rescue helicopter said a crew had been placed on standby over the incident but had been stood down.
