Discus star Samuels happy with return

Commonwealth discus champion Dani Samuels says she's happy with her return to action at the Adelaide Track Classic on Saturday night.

Commonwealth discus champion Dani Samuels says she's taken great heart from her return to competition at the Adelaide Track Classic.

Samuels hailed her consistency as she triumphed in her pet event on Saturday night at her first outing this summer.

The 2009 world champion defied some tricky winds to win with a best effort of 65.20 metres, and also logged two throws over 64.5 metres.

"I'm pretty happy with that ... the consistency was there," Samuels told AAP.

Samuels' triumph came at a meeting where middle distance runner Jeff Riseley upset Alex Rowe in the men's 800m.

Riseley, a four-time 1500m national champion, said he was motivated by publicity surrounding the battles between Rowe, the joint Australian 800m record holder, and Kenya's 800m world record holder Olympic champion David Rudisha.

"It's a bit of the Rudisha-Rowe show and I felt a bit s*** that I got left out of that," Riseley told AAP.

"So I wanted to come out here and prove that don't discount me over 800m as well as 1500m."

In the women's 3000m, Victorian Zoe Buckman logged a personal best to defeat Eloise Wellings and Commonwealth Games marathon bronze medallist Jess Trengove.

Buckman clocked eight minutes 56.29 seconds, almost a second and a half quicker than her previous best.

A dead heat was recorded in the men's 100m between London Olympic relay runner Isaac Ntiamoah and Queenslander Tom Gamble.
