Disgusting to talk PM's religion: Brandis

Attorney-General George Brandis is disgusted by the Australian Greens raising the subject of the prime minister's religion in the Senate.

Attorney-General George Brandis has lashed out at Greens senator Larissa Waters for raising the subject of the prime minister's religion.

Senator Waters used Senate question time on Monday to ask whether Tony Abbott - who once trained as a Catholic priest - would listen to the Pope's recent call for action on climate change.

The question was ruled out of order due to rules prohibiting reference to religion but Senator Brandis took the opportunity to describe the reflection on Mr Abbott's religious beliefs as "disgusting".
