Divers join search for missing NSW teacher

Police have combed through her home, her car and her other properties. Now the focus has turned to a river in the search for Sharon Edwards.

Divers have been called in to search the Clarence River in NSW as police investigate the suspicious disappearance of teacher Sharon Edwards.

Ms Edwards spent Saturday night with close friends at the Good Intent Hotel in Grafton on the north coast.

It is believed she went to a mate's house before returning home, where her car was later found in the garage.

Ms Edwards was last seen between 10pm-11pm but police believe she drove home that night.

The 55-year-old primary school teacher didn't turn up to work at Coutts Crossing Public School on Monday morning.

Her husband reported her missing the next day.

The couple have three properties together, one in Grafton and two, including a vacant lot, in nearby Lawrence. They have all been forensically examined by police.

It is understood Ms Edwards lives in the Grafton home and her husband often stays at the Lawrence property.

Police divers and the water police joined the search on Friday with a focus on the Clarence River.

Coffs Clarence police Detective Inspector Darren Jameson said police wanted to hear about any plans Ms Edwards had on Sunday.

"We want to hear from anyone that was due to meet up with her on Sunday, if she had any appointments," he told AAP.

Detectives say Ms Edward's disappearance is under "extremely suspicious circumstances" and are not ruling anything in or out.

Ms Edwards was well known in her northern NSW community as a dedicated teacher and keen tennis player.

On Saturday she spent the afternoon at the Grafton City Tennis Club, where she chatted with fellow players after a game before heading to the pub.

Police say she didn't have a history of mental illness and they hold grave concerns for the mother of three.
