Australia's Kevin Chavez has won silver on the opening day of the FINA Gold Coast diving Grand Prix but couldn't stop a Chinese whitewash on Saturday.

Olympian Chavez finished second behind Jianfeng Peng as China claimed all four gold medals on day one of competition.

Australian Olympian Brittany O'Brien was fourth, just four points behind China's Bingqing Xia.

Earlier Chinese divers dominated the first of the synchronised events, winning gold in both the men's three-metre and the women's 10-metre platform finals.

Bowen Huang and Siyi Xie finished more than 60 points ahead of their nearest rivals in the men's 3-metre synchro, posting a score of 409.92.
