Do you support laws introducing pet bans and jail time for irresponsible dog owners?

Owners of dogs that attack people will be barred from keeping canines for up to a decade under tough new laws proposed in Victoria.

Premier Denis Napthine said irresponsible pet owners shouldn't be allowed to own an animal and dangerous dogs such as American pit bulls should be banned from the streets.

"If a dog bites, if a dog attacks, there's no place for it in our society," Premier Napthine says.

The proposed changes will be introduced into the Victorian parliament later this year.

Those caught breaching the ban will also face up to two years' jail or a $34,000 fine.

What do you think of the proposed laws?
