Fremantle have dropped Connor Blakely for Sunday's AFL clash with St Kilda after the young midfielder chucked a sickie in order to go surfing.

Blakely was allowed to leave training early on Wednesday after complaining of illness.

But instead of resting up, Blakely travelled to his home town of Bunbury, before hitting the waves at Yallingup for a surf.

And in an added blow to Fremantle, star wingman Stephen Hill (calf) and Josh Deluca (ankle) have also been ruled out of the match at Domain Stadium, while Shane Kersten was dropped.

Fremantle football operations manager Chris Bond said Blakely had made an uncharacteristic error of judgement.

"As a respected, young and emerging player at Fremantle, Connor knows the uncompromising standards that all of our players are required to adhere to," Bond said.

"And in this instance, Connor has not been at the required level."

Blakely has been one of Fremantle's best players this season,.

The 21-year-old has averaged 24 disposals a game in a campaign where he has also shown his talent as a tagger.

Earlier this week, Blakely signed a two-year contract extension tying him to the club until the end of 2019.

The Dockers made four changes all up for Sunday's match, with coach Ross Lyon losing patience with out-of-form forward Kersten.

Kersten has booted just one goal from the past four matches, and was the only unforced change.

Fremantle have been boosted by the return of skipper Nat Fyfe (bruised sternum) and ruckman Aaron Sandilands (hamstring), while Ethan Hughes and Brady Grey also won call-ups.

St Kilda made just one change, bringing back Jack Steele for for Blake Acres.
