Docker Pavlich, Cat Johnson face AFL bans

Fremantle's Matthew Pavlich is one of six players facing AFL suspensions by the match review panel.

Fremantle's AFL top-four bid has been handicapped by a three-game suspension facing captain Matthew Pavlich, while Geelong's Steve Johnson has copped his third ban of the year.

The star pair are among six players offered bans by the match review panel on Monday, mostly affecting high-ranking clubs.

Hawthorn's Shaun Burgoyne (two games), West Coast's Andrew Embley (two games), Sydney's Ben McGlynn (three) and Port Adelaide's Kane Cornes (one) are the others.

Fremantle's forward linchpin Pavlich has had just two games back after missing 10 with an Achilles injury.

He was charged with making reckless front-on head contact to Eagles defender Mitch Brown in Sunday's Perth derby.

A potential four-game ban can be reduced to three if the Dockers star pleads guilty, which would mean missing Sunday's MCG clash with sixth-placed Richmond and matches against Adelaide and Carlton.

Geelong's Johnson faces missing Sunday's away match against Adelaide, after being booked for dropping his knee into the body of Melbourne's Nathan Jones.

He could have escaped with a reprimand if not for a penalty loading for three previous suspensions within the past year.

Johnson missed last year's elimination final loss to Fremantle, then round one this season and Saturday's game was his first since serving a two-game suspension for a high bump on Brisbane's Pearce Hanley.

The penalty loading means he'll risk a two-game sanction if he fights his latest charge.

Embley has been booked for a high bump on Fremantle's Clancee Pearce, just two games after serving a ban for dropping his knees into Hawthorn's Ben Stratton.

Burgoyne was charged over a high bump on Port Adelaide's Tom Logan.

McGlynn was cited for intentionally striking Greater Western Sydney's Tom Scully high, with Scully subbed off as a result of Sunday's incident.

Cornes, charged over an off-the-ball incident with Hawk veteran Sam Mitchell, will miss one game whether he pleads guilty or visits the tribunal and loses, thanks to a penalty reduction for a previous good record.

Hawk Jordan Lewis can accept a reprimand for a low-grade striking offence while Eagles skipper Darren Glass faces a $900 fine for umpire contact.
