Docker Sandilands undergoes surgery

Fremantle ruckman Aaron Sandilands is set to spend at least several weeks on the sidelines after suffering rib and lung damage in Saturday's western derby loss.

Fremantle ruckman Aaron Sandilands is set to spend several more days in hospital while he recovers from a collapsed lung and fractured ribs.

Sandilands suffered the injuries when he copped a knee to the back from Nic Naitanui in Saturday night's 33-point western derby loss.

The 211cm ruckman underwent surgery on Sunday but a timeframe on his return is yet to be set.

Although some players have been able to return from a punctured lung within three weeks, the fact Sandilands also has rib damage is expected to extend his spell on the sidelines.

His loss is a huge blow to the Dockers, whose finals hopes are already looking slim following their 0-3 start to the season.

Fremantle face the unbeaten Kangaroos at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Ruckman Jon Griffin is almost certain to earn a recall to fill the void left by Sandilands.

But skipper David Mundy will miss several more games after injuring his calf at training on Friday.
