Dockers hopeful on AFL's Fyfe, McPharlin

Fremantle will aim to take another step towards the AFL top four when they lock horns with Adelaide at Patersons Stadium.

He was on crutches just days ago, but Fremantle midfielder Nat Fyfe remains a strong chance to front up for Sunday's AFL clash with Adelaide at Patersons Stadium.

Fyfe played through the pain of an injured ankle in last week's win over the Bulldogs, with the subsequent swelling forcing him onto crutches after the game.

Although Fyfe was unable to train on Wednesday, scans have cleared him of anything worrying, and coach Ross Lyon is optimistic the 22-year-old will be able to pass a fitness test on Friday.

"It's swollen. But he didn't suffer any severe damage," Lyon said of Fyfe's ankle.

"He should train Friday. And if he jumps all the hurdles, he should play. So we're really quite confident."

Midfielder Stephen Hill, Danyle Pearce and defender Luke McPharlin were restricted to jogging laps on Wednesday.

Hill and Pearce are expected to front up against the Crows, but McPharlin looked a tad proppy and will be further assessed later in the week.

McPharlin has only just returned from a quad injury, and Lyon admitted the 32-year-old had pulled up sore from the Bulldogs game.

"Etihad is a hard surface with the car park underneath, and the concrete foundation makes it a bit harder," Lyon said.

"In 2012 he hurt himself in round 22. That was a period where we probably should have rested him.

"It is hard to do when you've got a fit available Luke McPharlin, leave him out. I find it challenging, personally."

Should McPharlin be ruled out, Alex Silvagni will earn a recall after being a late withdrawal last week due to team balance.

Adelaide have won five of their past seven games to get themselves back into the finals mix, while seventh-placed Fremantle are just one win adrift of second spot and looking to charge into the top four.

Meanwhile, Dockers forward Scott Gumbleton is a chance to play for WAFL side Peel Thunder on Saturday after overcoming a serious hamstring injury.

The former Bomber hasn't played since tearing his hamstring during the pre-season, but a solid block of training has put him on the verge of a return.
