Fremantle have recalled Hayden Ballantyne and Brandon Matera as the Dockers try to conjure an AFL win without star duo Nat Fyfe and Aaron Sandilands.

Fyfe was banned for Sunday's clash with Adelaide at Optus Stadium after he failed to beat a striking charge at the AFL tribunal.

Misfiring forward Cam McCarthy was dropped, while Sandilands couldn't be considered after he failed a concussion test for a second-straight week.

Ballantyne and Matera return, having been two of the four players dropped ahead of last week's big loss to Collingwood at the MCG.

The Crows swung a selection surprise on Thursday evening when they named Taylor Walker at centre half-forward.

The skipper had been thought to be in contention to return next week at the earliest, as he continued a mini-preseason after pulling up sore from the round-eight loss to Port Adelaide.

Youngster Myles Poholke was recalled with star pair Rory Laird (hand) and Tom Lynch (abdominal strain) injured.

Brisbane host Essendon at the Gabba in Sunday's other clash, with the Lions calling up Jarrod Berry and Sam Mayes, who will play his 100th AFL game.

Charlie Cameron (foot) is out for the rest of the season, with Mitch Robinson (toe) the other player to depart the side after losing to North Melbourne.

Mitch Brown, Mason Redman, David Myers and Josh Green come in for the Bombers, who lose David Zaharakis to a broken collarbone suffered in the Dreamtime at the 'G loss to Richmond.
