Fremantle coach Ross Lyon admits there's a chance Nat Fyfe's groin injury might sideline the Brownlow medal favourite for longer than a week.
But Lyon is confident star midfielder David Mundy will shake off a migraine in time to face GWS in Sunday's AFL clash at Domain Stadium.
Fyfe has struggled with a corked thigh for the past three weeks, but it's a groin injury that has finally grounded him.
Lyon remains hopeful Fyfe will be able to return for next week's clash with St Kilda in Melbourne.
But the 23-year-old will be given as much time as required to fully overcome the complaint.
"We're going to build his strength - we're not resting him," Lyon said on Friday.
"Hopefully it's one week, but if it needs to be two, it will be two.
"If it needs to be three, it will be three. If it needs to be six weeks, it will be six.
"But we're optimistic that hopefully it's less rather than more."
Mundy was a notable absentee from training on Friday, but Lyon wasn't too concerned.
"He gets migraines," Lyon said.
"He trained Wednesday. We expect him to play. I'd be really disappointed if he didn't play."
Forward Matt Taberner has been axed for the third time this season, with his return of just two goals in his past six matches proving insufficient.
Lyon rates Taberner highly, but said the 22-year-old needed to rediscover his form to win back his spot.
"We don't think he's been at his best. We know he's a lot better than that," Lyon said.
"He's a wonderful young player, but that happens with young players - they go up and down."
Clancee Pearce was omitted, while the Giants will be without Nick Haynes (groin), Devon Smith (knee), and Zac Williams (hamstring).
The Giants dropped to ninth on the table following last week's loss to Geelong, and a loss to Fremantle could leave them a win and percentage adrift of eighth spot.
