A doctor has been stabbed at a Melbourne hospital and is in a critical condition.

A doctor is fighting for his life after being stabbed at a Melbourne hospital.

Police say the man was stabbed at the Western Hospital at Footscray just after 8.30am (AEDT) on Tuesday.

One man is in custody and another man is being treated for a life-threatening injury.
