Dogs' Brennan hopes for quick AFLW return

The Western Bulldogs hope captain Katie Brennan will return before the end of the AFLW season.

Katie Brennan's rotten AFLW injury luck continues, with scans confirming the Western Bulldogs captain has suffered ankle ligament damage.

The Bulldogs are unsure whether Brennan will return before the end of this season.

Brennan was hurt in the last two minutes of Saturday's loss to Adelaide at Norwood Oval.

The club said she suffered minor ligament damage to her right ankle.

"We know Katie will do everything possible to ensure she can get back out there before the end of the season," Bulldogs coach Paul Groves said in a statement.

"While it's unclear how many weeks she might miss, she has already started working with our medical staff to make sure she recovers at the earliest opportunity.

"As one of our leaders, Katie will be difficult to replace, but the group of players who have missed selection are working extremely hard to be ready for their opportunity,"

Brennan kicked two goals and was one of the Bulldogs' best players in their first loss of the season.

A right ankle injury last year also meant she missed most of the inaugural women's season.

Last week, top Bulldogs draft pick Isabel Huntington suffered a knee injury and will need a reconstruction, sidelining her for several months.
