Dogs put down after attacking Sydney owner

Two American bulldogs have been put down after brutally attacking their owner in Sydney's southwest, when he tried to break up a fight between them.

Two American bulldogs that tore at their elderly owner's face and ripped his ears off have been put down.

The man, aged in his 70s, was attempting to the stop the dogs fighting when he was bitten at Mount Pritchard in Sydney's southwest on Sunday afternoon.

The man's son surrendered the dogs to the RSPCA and the dogs were humanely euthanased shortly after, a RSPCA spokeswoman said.

The man was rushed to Liverpool Hospital with serious facial injuries, as well as injuries to his head, neck and upper body.

He remains in a stable condition on Monday.
