The Western Bulldogs are angry about a Lindsay Thomas tackle that is certain to attract AFL match review panel attention.

Thomas's crude tackle caught Lachie Hunter high in the last quarter on Friday night as North Melbourne scored a 16-point win in their match of the round.

As Hunter crouched to take possession of a ground ball, Thomas caught him across the throat with a coathanger.

Hunter's teammate Marcus Bontempelli made it clear on Saturday the Dogs were unhappy about the incident.

"I think that's the first time he's been in that position," Bontempelli said of Hunter.

"It's really difficult. We didn't really like it at all. We thought there was quite a bit of malice in it.

"He will be okay. Hopefully he can relax and be okay over the next couple of days but we thought it was quite a bit unfair."

Hunter had a game-high 44 possessions.
