Out-of-favour Canterbury NRL forward Tony Williams is reportedly set to leave the Bulldogs for a mid-season return to Manly.

The Seven Network is reporting both clubs have been involved in talks on a transfer for the out-of-contract back-rower who is in his fourth season with Canterbury.

T-Rex was dropped to reserve grade a fortnight ago when he strained his hamstring at training and was ruled out for up to three weeks.

In four years at Manly, the 27-year-old earned NSW State of Origin and Australian representative honours.

Williams also started in the Sea Eagles' 2011 grand final victory.
