Dolphin death investigated by Tas police

Police are trying to find out whether a firearm was used to kill a dolphin found washed up on the Tasmanian coast.

The death of a dolphin that washed up on the Tasmanian coast is being investigated by police.

The mammal, found on Maurouard Beach near St Helens, sustained a number of small wounds and while there are a number of natural circumstances that could have cause them, police are trying to rule out whether a firearm was used.

Police and the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment say they are also aware of a similar case involving a dolphin found dead near Bridport.
