Domestic robot can't be used for sex: firm

Japan's SoftBank has issued a warning that the domestic robot Pepper cannot be used for sex.

A Japanese company, who developed the domestic robot Pepper, has warned against using it for sex.

Mobile phone giant SoftBank issued the warning in its user agreement for the robot, which was launched in the market in June with a price tag of $US1,740 ($A2,476).

"The policy owner must not perform any sexual act or other indecent behavior," says the manual and warns of possible legal measures in case of non-compliance.

The android-based robot, which moves on rollers, was sold out within one minute after its launch in Japan.

Besides verbal communication, Pepper is capable of reading human emotions using its sensors and cameras, can share experiences and also learn new functions through its permanent connection to the cloud.
