He's only been given the job on a short-term basis, but Allan Donald has eyes on being Australia's long-term bowling coach.
Cricket Australia (CA) confirmed on Thursday that the former South African quick would lead Australia's bowling brigade on the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, but the long-term replacement for Craig McDermott was still unknown.
Australian coach Lehmann admitted last week he was trying to lure Jason Gillespie into the role, but the Proteas' fourth-leading wicket-taker has ambitions of holding onto the job well beyond this winter.
"If it does happen to be a long-term thing, then I would absolutely love to do that," Donald said.
"There's no question about it. I would love to work with Boof (head coach Darren Lehmann) and his team, without a shadow of doubt."
Key to impressing Australia's powerbrokers will be what he can extract out of Australia's bowlers during the Three-test series in Sri Lanka.
While Australia have long been dominant in home conditions, they have won just two of their past 10 series on the sub-continent and England where reverse swing is far more important.
In comparison, during Donald's time with South Africa, the Proteas won two series and drew their only other in similar conditions.
And now he knows that will be key to turning around Australia's fortunes.
"Reverse swing is massive in the sub-continent," he said.
"I want to take reverse swing to another level in terms of how (Australia) implement it.
"There is a lot more to it and a lot more skill that can take them a lot further in terms of the art of reverse swing."
Donald spearheaded South Africa's attack during his 10-year Test career, taking 310 wickets in a time when the Proteas were the world's clear second-best side behind the dominant Australians.
Meanwhile, Stuart Law was also confirmed as the fill-in batting coach for the Sri Lankan tour, while regular Greg Blewett steps away for the birth of his second child.
