The Greens senator pushing for a major clamp down on political donations is now a member of the parliamentary committee that investigates electoral matters.

Lee Rhiannon is the newest member of the joint standing committee on electoral matters after beating Liberal Democrat David Leyonhjelm in a Senate ballot.

She'll be seeking to move a motion in the Senate later on Tuesday calling for a ban on foreign donations as well as donations from property developers, tobacco, alcohol, gambling, mining companies and industry lobby groups.
