Don't be silly with alcohol, ambos warn

Ambos are urging people to drink responsibly over the Xmas holidays, saying paramedics have already treated people for alcohol-fuelled accidents.

Doing the splits, getting tangled in a trestle table and falling from a waterslide are some of the alcohol-fuelled mishaps that have led to serious injuries in NSW so far this silly season.

The NSW Ambulance service doesn't see the funny side and is urging the community to drink responsibly.

"It's the silly season but people shouldn't be silly with their safety," NSW Ambulance Inspector Hamuera Kohu said in a statement on Tuesday.

"They'll do things they may not do in a more sober frame of mind and end up embarrassed or, worse, seriously injured."

Insp Kohu said while NSW Ambulance is there to help in emergencies, it has zero tolerance to the physical or verbal abuse of paramedics.
