Victorian paramedics have responded to 204 triple-zero calls to rescue children locked inside cars since 2015 began, including 11 on Thursday alone.
Ambulance Victoria group manager Brett Drummond said Ambulance Victoria tests showed that on a day of 29C, the temperature inside a car could reach 44C in 10 minutes and 60C in 20 minutes.
With a week of heatwave conditions on the way, Mr Drummond said leaving children inside a car is extremely dangerous.
"We have seen children die in hot cars in the last few years. Just don't take the risk," Mr Drummond said.
"It's never OK to leave a child in a car, no exceptions, no excuses."
Melbourne's southern and eastern suburbs accounted for 77 of the triple-0 calls since January 1, with the northern and western suburbs accounting for 73 calls. Another 54 call-outs came from regional areas.
