Downer EDI wins $70m NT mining contract

Downer EDI will enter into a two-year deal to run underground operations at Canadian company Crocodile Gold's Northern Territory mine.

Engineering group Downer EDI has won a $70 million contract with Crocodile Gold Corp to help run the Canadian company's Northern Territory operations.

Under the two-year deal set to start in March, Downer will provide underground mining services at Crocodile's Cosmo Gold Mine, one of three mines Crocodile Gold operates in Australia.

It also runs the Fosterville Gold Mine and Stawell Gold Mine, both in Victoria.

The scope of work will include development, mining and other works to maintain the supply-of-mill feed ore at the mine's underground operations.

"Our highly skilled and experienced underground mining team looks forward to working with Crocodile Gold Corp on this important project," Downer chief executive Grant Fenn said.

On Tuesday, Downer announced that its first-half profit had lifted, to $99.1 million from 94 million the same time the previous year.
