Dozens more abuse complaints at Vic school

Elite Melbourne private school Scotch College says it has received 69 complaints from former students with half of those relating to sexual abuse.

Dozens of former students have come forward to report cases of historical sexual abuse at an elite Melbourne private school, its principal says.

In a letter to the school on Wednesday, Scotch College principal Tom Batty said 69 former students reported or commented on historical abuse at the school.

Many of the new complaints related to corporal punishment, but 33 involving a "sexual element" have been reported.

The school says not all of these involve sexual assault.

The school reached out to childhood abuse survivors in May, after acknowledging for the first time that at least five students were abused on its grounds.

Mr Batty has apologised to former students and said five legal claims have been settled and two more had been received.

The school said it expects further claims to be presented.
