Veteran NRL halfback Michael Witt has announced his retirement.
The 30-year-old joined St George Illawarra ahead of their 2014 campaign, but injuries and the arrival of star playmakers Gareth Widdop and Benji Marshall limited him to just four first-grade games this year.
Witt hasn't played since June, when he injured his knee playing for the Illawarra Cutters in the NSW Cup and was forced to have reconstruction surgery.
He said he'd been weighing up whether to retire since then and had no regrets after 12 years at the top level.
Witt made his debut for Parramatta in 2003, before stints at Manly (2005-06) and the Warriors (2007-09). He also spent four seasons in the English Super League with the Crusaders and London Broncos.
"To play in the NRL has always been a dream of mine and I've been privileged enough to have played more games than I could have ever imagined," he said.
"Over the next several coming weeks I hope to start sorting out my future and commence the next chapter in my life alongside my family who have supported me throughout my career."
