Drama-free Keary relishing Roosters move

Sydney Roosters five-eighth Luke Keary says his NRL move from South Sydney has done him a world of good.

Luke Keary credits his storming start to the NRL season to the clear head he's found having escaped the spotlight at South Sydney.

The Sydney Roosters five-eighth is promising to be the buy of the year for the Rabbitohs' arch-rivals after a match-winning display against Canterbury last week.

He backed up his two-try effort against Gold Coast with a virtuoso performance in Thursday's 28-24 win over the Bulldogs in which he set up three of his side's five tries.

Keary found himself on the back pages all too often last year, after storming out of a pre-season bonding trip and a stoush with Rabbitohs co-owner Russell Crowe.

He also found himself fighting for his position each week with Cody Walker and played several games off the bench in the middle of the season.

He says his drama-free existence at Moore Park and the certainty that comes having a firm grip on the No.6 jersey is showing in his football.

"That definitely plays a part in it, you want to be on the field with a clear head and thinking straight," Keary said.

"If you can just think about what you have to do that day or night."

Like the Roosters' wider squad, who are 2-0, Keary is happy with his start but doesn't believe he's the full package yet.

Roosters coach Trent Robinson, while full of praise for his new playmaker, pointed out two mistakes which led to Bulldogs tries last week.

A defensive miss allowed Adam Elliott to score while his failure to clean up a loose ball contributed to Josh Morris crossing late in the game.

"I was pretty disappointed defensively, there were a couple of concentration lapses there," Keary said.

"I'll have to jump on a few footies this arvo as well. I missed two.

"It's good to get a couple of wins up but we've still got a couple of things to work on. There's a few parts of our game that we're missing at the moment."
