Drinks boss takes top job at kitchen group

Kitchen and bathroom appliances group GWA has announced a replacement CEO more than a year before current boss Peter Crowley retires.

The head of spirits and beer giant Diageo Australia is shifting to kitchens and bathrooms as the next chief executive of GWA Group.

Tim Salt has been managing director of Diageo Australia for seven years, overseeing the Australian and New Zealand operations of the company behind Bundaberg Rum, Johnnie Walker and Guinness.

He had previously worked with Pepsi in the US and Australia, and with brewer Lion Nathan, and was head of Arnott's Australasia before joining Diageo.

GWA, the owner of bathroom and kitchen fixtures brands including Caroma, Dorf and Fowler, has appointed Mr Salt to replace chief executive Peter Crowley, who will retire at the end of June, 2016.

Mr Salt will join GWA in September though, stepping in as executive general manager of bathroom and kitchens while he transitions to the top job.

GWA's current kitchens and bathrooms general manger, Les Patterson, is retiring on June 30 after 11 years with the company.

Chairman Darryl McDonough said Mr Salt's experience means he is well equipped to drive GWA's growth.

"Tim is an outstanding senior executive, who possesses global best practice skills having worked across the UK, USA and Australia," he said.

GWA shares closed up five cents, or 2.12 per cent, at $2.41.
