Drivers injured in wild Vic weather

Ambulance Victoria has had a 15 per cent increase in emergency calls due to wild winds, including cases of trees falling on cars and injuring drivers.

A woman struck by roof sheeting in downtown Melbourne, trees falling on cars and injuring drivers and the collapse of a wall on a woman are among the emergencies faced by Victoria's paramedics during a day of wild winds.

Ambulance Victoria experienced a 15 per cent per cent increase in emergency calls on Tuesday up until midday.

A woman hit by a brick wall that collapsed in Yarraville was taken to the Western Hospital in a stable condition.

Another woman in her 40s was showered with glass when a tree fell on to her car as she was driving in Werribee. She was taken to the Werribee Mercy Hospital in a stable condition.

At Clunes in the state's west, another driver was injured when a tree fell on the road. The man was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

A woman aged in her 30s was hit by plastic roof sheeting in the Melbourne CBD, but did not require ambulance treatment.

Ambulance Victoria regional manager Tess Tuohey said paramedics responded to 691 emergency calls up until midday, almost 100 more than for the same period last Tuesday.

She said the weather had a big impact on the type of cases paramedics were called to and she urged people to take care, particularly on the roads.

"It's important for people to take care on the roads, and be mindful of the potential for trees to come down across the road," Ms Tuohey said.
