The Senate has called on the federal government to ditch its budget measure forcing jobseekers under the age of 25 to wait four weeks to get the dole.

The Senate wants the federal government to ditch its revised one-month wait time for young people to access the dole.

The Australian Greens won upper house support for the motion that urges the government to drop its "ideological attack" on jobseekers under the age of 25.

"When you kick them off welfare support it means they can't find work," Greens senator Rachel Siewert told parliament on Thursday.
