Drug arrest at Brisbane Airport

A man has been charged with trafficking after being arrested by police once he got off a plane at Brisbane airport.

A man has been arrested at Brisbane Airport for allegedly trafficking ice and ecstasy after getting off a flight from New Zealand.

The 42-year-old man, from the outer Brisbane suburb of Doolandella, was arrested overnight, having been on detectives' radar for some time over his alleged involvement in a drug trafficking syndicate.

He was charged with trafficking dangerous drugs with the aggravated circumstance of being a vicious lawless associate and was due in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Operation Mike Cloudburst, which had been investigating the syndicate, has now made 20 arrests on 85 charges and seized about $18 million worth of drugs, police said.

"This syndicate operated nationally, responsible for the distribution of ice in and out of Queensland and has now been totally dismantled," Detective Acting Superintendent Brendan Smith said.
