A member of Justin Bieber's entourage allegedly found with marijuana during the pop star's Australian tour is insisting the drugs belonged to someone else.
The case against Terrence Reche Smalls returned to a Brisbane court on Friday as Bieber himself was arrested in the US for drag racing in a yellow Lamborghini, allegedly while he was affected by marijuana and alcohol.
Smalls, 23, was charged with two counts of importing border controlled drugs with lack of commercial intent after 13 grams of cannabis was reportedly found in his bag at Brisbane Airport on November 24.
His barrister told the Brisbane Magistrates Court his client admitted ownership of the bag in which the drug was found, but the stash itself belonged to another member of Bieber's touring group.
"That person intends to accept criminal responsibility for the importation of a small quantity of drugs and so what's required is for proceedings to commence against that person," Jeff Hunter, QC, told the court.
He said once that's done steps would be taken in relation to his client's matter.
Mr Hunter asked for the case to be adjourned, a request that was not opposed by the Commonwealth prosecutor.
The matter was adjourned until March 14.
In the meantime an unexecuted warrant for Smalls's arrest will continue to lie on file, the court heard. Smalls was not in court.
