Dubbo woman arrested for stealing taxi

A 27-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with multiple offences after allegedly stealing a taxi in Dubbo, which led to three police pursuits.

A woman will face court after allegedly stealing a taxi while the driver was helping a passenger with their luggage and leading police on an on-again, off-again pursuit for about 150 kilometres.

The 56-year-old cab driver was dropping the passenger at Dubbo Railway Station in central NSW at 8.50am on Saturday when the woman got in the taxi and drove off.

The driver tried to remove the woman from his cab but fell to the ground during the struggle and sustained minor injuries.

The woman then stopped at a petrol station before leaving Dubbo and allegedly did not pay for fuel.

Police attempted to pursue the taxi on three occasions between Dubbo and Orange, but each attempt was called off for safety reasons.

The taxi was found abandoned in Orange and a 27-year-old woman was arrested after a chase on foot.

She has been refused bail to appear in Orange Bail Court on Sunday charged with multiple offences including being in a police pursuit, driving at speed and driving dangerously/recklessly.
